There were 2,846 pennies (five of them Canadian) and one dime in the jug, making Al the winner and killing some of my faith in the wisdom of crowds–although that was a bad picture. Poll!
I have three-four unread books by each of them, despite never having read more than a few pages of JCO. If Iris Murdoch loses, I promise not to mention her here again. Maybe I’ll burn her books on a grill or try to give them out in the subway.
The Signs: Dhalgren – I read an awesome Junot Díaz interview the other day that I think might be relevant.
The White Album – It’s come to my attention that California is a curious state. Also, I spent about ten hours consuming everything Wikipedia had to say about Charles Manson and his group and their murders, and Roger Waters’s essay about Leslie van Houten, so I’d be prepared. Play It As It Lays was really good.
Into Thin Air – Newspapers and the internet and stories and magazines have a lot to say to me about polar exploration, cold places, and self-abnegating sports lately.
Write-in option in the spirit of openness to fate.
Hello, Shirley Henderson. I vaguely wanted to see 24 Hour Party People. Also 9 Songs, which you were not in, but Michael Winterbottom directed.
A therapist once told me, or someone told me a therapist told them, that the reason therapy had to cost so much is so the patient would appreciate its value. Which is a very Ayn Rand, absolute idea of value, assuming we live in a capitalist utopia or can get there by pretending we do, but… These are all books I got for free. Will I still like them? Will I like them as much?
This time you can vote for multiple books–whatever you would take off the street. (If the answer is “none,” the question becomes, “What would you take if someone was threatening your loved ones?”) Covers below the poll for your consideration.
